Volunteer Opportunities
Volunteers are the heart and soul of WCDC and we rely on your help to end substandard housing in Western North Carolina. Volunteering is not just for skilled carpenters. In fact, beyond offering specific building opportunities, we welcome and encourage anyone who is willing to help.

Construction Volunteer Opportunities
Want to work with a hammer? A drill? Join a construction crew! Construction volunteers are needed for site work nearly year round. Tools are available on site, but if you have a favorite, bring it! Volunteers help build the entire house, from the foundation to the shingles. Both skilled and unskilled volunteers are welcome. By the end of a day, you will have had a great time, possibly made a new friend or even learned a new skill.
Individual Volunteers
Both skilled and unskilled volunteers are welcome. A skill assessment at the beginning of the day will result in an assigned task with which you are comfortable.
Crew Leaders
Become a volunteer crew leader and bring your own team! This position requires the ability to lead a small group of 3-5 people in completing building tasks designated in advance by the Site Supervisor.
Group and Team Volunteers
Church and faith-based teams, corporations, trade associations, civic organizations and other groups are an integral part of our construction process. Working as a construction crew is a great way to build teamwork and spirit within your group while contributing to a community's stability.
Non-Construction Volunteer Opportunities
Not interested in building but want to help? We can always use volunteers to provide lunches for construction crews, "Welcome Baskets" for new homeowners or even T-shirts and hats for volunteer teams. Just let us know how you or your organization would like to help.
Unexpected Volunteer Rewards
There are no greater volunteer rewards than those which are unexpected. The drawing at right was presented to two teams of volunteers at the end of a long day from appreciative little 5-year-old Ella, who asked that the picture be given "to the people who build the houses."
