Faith-Based Program

Building housing for church members or local residents.Wesley CDC’s Faith-Based Program was developed in order to provide western North Carolina churches, of any denomination and who are not located near one of our housing developments or administrative office, with the opportunity to build housing for a church member or local resident.

As with all of our projects, Wesley CDC staff is responsible for overall construction activities and volunteer coordination along with homeowner qualification, training and counseling.

While Wesley CDC assumes overall project responsibility and provides tools and funding for construction materials, as needed, partnering churches are responsible for overseeing day-to-day activities.

Local Church Responsibilities

  1. Identify potential homeowner.
  2. Contact Wesley CDC to discuss project.
  3. Purchase land for home construction and deed to Wesley CDC. (Cost refunded upon closing so that same dollars may be used to purchase land for additional home.)
  4. Provide local project coordinator and steering committee.
  5. Provide day-to-day construction management, volunteer coordination and homeowner support and coordinate activities with Wesley CDC counterpart.
  6. Provide secure storage for tools and supplies.

Wesley CDC Responsibilities

  1. Work closely with local project coordinator and steering committee. (Wesley CDC President serves as steering committee member and provides direction as needed.)
  2. Review potential homeowner applications.
  3. Work with applicant, steering committee and lenders to qualify applicant for financing.
  4. Serve as general contractor. Provide overall construction management including house plans and directions to local construction management.
  5. Work with local volunteer coordinator and housing counselor. Provide direction and training as needed.
  6. Obtain all necessary permits.
  7. Provide funding for construction materials.
  8. Provide tools as available.
  9. Provide liability and builder’s risk insurance. (Volunteers must have own insurance.)
  10. Return land cost to local steering committee upon closing.
